The bank chaired by Ana Botín has been, for 19 years, the most sustainable Spanish entity but, in 2019, it also managed to be the most sustainable in the world .

Iberdrola

Iberdrola is another benchmark in terms of a sustainable company in Spain. The SDGs were incorporated into the company's strategy in 2015 and, since then, different improvements have been developed. One of its objectives is to reinforce its leadership in clean and renewable energy and, for this, an investment of 8,000 million euros is planned until 2022.

  To become part of the DJSI, companies must pass a questionnaire with information provided by the company itself and an analysis of the presence in the media. Subsequently, analysts rate companies with a scale of points from 1 to 100 and decide which ones become part of the index or not.

• Why is this index important?

  The organizations that are part of the DJSI become a reference for investors and also for stakeholders for their social and environmental commitment, as well as for their financial solvency.

Although it is true, being part of this index is not easy but it offers an important distinction for the organization, in addition to being contributing to social improvement and positively impacting society. Spain has managed to do this and 15 companies are an example of this, however there is still a long way to go to reach healthy levels in  sustainability and the environment.
